Volunteer opportunities there for dog days of summer
Here are some local volunteer opportunities.
The Family Conservancy needs a volunteer to help with filing a couple hours per week. If you are interested in finding out more information about this opportunity please contact Barb at 913-742-4137 or at bking@thefamilyconservancy.org.
Strawberry Fields Garden is a community garden looking for volunteers to partner with. Volunteers have the option of adopting a plot of the garden to grow their own produce. Mulching, weeding, watering and harvesting are common activities for the volunteer gardener. For more information on how you can help please leave a message for Debbie at 913-288-7690.
Central Area Betterment Association would like to recruit a volunteer or volunteers to help in the office. Responsibilities will include answering the phone, e-mail correspondence, filing, data entry, and assisting with the newsletter. To volunteer, contact Marty at 913-281-9222 or at mtcaba@att.net.
Cancer Action is recruiting volunteers who knit, crochet, and sew to help make comfort items for area cancer patients. You can volunteer as an individual or maybe you have a group who gets together. As a group you can socialize and knit, crochet or sew. The finished items can then be sent to Cancer Action for distribution to cancer patients. For more information on how you can help Cancer Action contact Leslie at 913-642-8885 or at leslieb@canceractionkc.org.
Bethel Neighborhood Center to help train adults and youth how to use a computer. If you have the knowledge, the time and want to help others master the computer, please contact Rakmi at 913-371-8218 or at rshazia@bethelcenter.org.
This hot weather is stretching the purse strings of the low-income and marginal families in our community. Utilities bills are high. Local food pantries are being asked to help families with food so that the utility bill can be paid. Shelves in the pantries are getting pretty bare. Maybe you help organize a food drive at your church or place of business.
There are a number of pantries that would welcome non-perishable food items, laundry and dishwashing soap, paper towels, toilet paper, personal care items, diapers, baby food to name just a few of the many items requested at local pantries. If you need information on a food pantry let me know.
