Bishop Ward boys nearly pull upset, girls fall to Lansing
The Bishop Ward Cyclones nearly delivered the upset of the night in Kansas high school basketball.
The Cyclones were defeated 70--69 on the road against Lansing. C.J. Vallejo and Chris Huey led the way for the Cyclones. Huey scored a team-high 17 points, while Vallejo added 14.
The game was a back and forth affair from the get go. Ward trailed 17-15 after one, but gained a 32-28 halftime lead. The lead remained at five points after three, but a 27-point effort from Lansing in the fourth was too much for Ward.
Ward scored 22 points of their own in the fourth, but it wasn't quite enough.
Meanwhile, one of the top teams in the state of Kansas took to the Lady Cyclones a bit.
Lansing, only losing one game so far this season, handed Ward a 49-31 defeat.
Kylee Burns scored a team and game-high 22 points for Bishop Ward. No other Cyclone scored more than four points in the game.
Ward led 10-3 after the first quarter, but were outscored 46-21 the rest of the way.
