COURT BEAT: Three charged with possessing fake identification documents
Three citizens from Mexico were charged today in a Kansas City, Kan., court with possessing false United States identification documents.
Rafael Torres-Moreno, Miguel Angel Mendoza-Hernandez and Isidro Castro-Lopez were all charged with one count of possessing false identification documents.
Additional charges were made on Torres-Moreno and Castro-Lopez, as Torres-Moreno was charged with one count of selling false documents and Castro-Lopez was charged with one count of possessing equipment for the purpose of manufacturing false cards.
“Anyone who knowingly makes or sells fake identity cards is putting the security of our communities and our country at risk,” said Gilbert Trill, assistant special agent in charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Kansas City.
The fake Social Security cards were being sold at the price of $130 earlier this year. Undercover federal agents purchased the cards from Torres-Moreno.
The three men could face at least 10 years in prison and could be fined $250,000.
