Harmon jumps out to 1-0 start; Turner edged out
• Harmon 87, Word of Life 72
The Harmon Hawks had four starters score in double figures as they defeated Word of Life from Wichita, Kan., 87-72.
DeOntae Hooks (pictured) led Harmon with a game-high 28 points. Jauan Wilson added 21, James Davenport scored 17 and Exavier Bass Brooks scored 13.
Harmon jumped out to a sizeable advantage at 28-16 after the first quarter. Word of Life was able to narrow the game to 46-39 at halftime.
The Hawks were able to maintain an advantage throughout the second half.
Harmon added four points to its lead after three quarters and was able to put it away with a 22-point fourth quarter.
• Mill Valley 49, Turner 46
The Turner Golden Bears were unable to hold on to a 12-point first half lead, falling at home to Mill Valley 49-46.
Austin Lewis led Turner with 16 points.
The Golden Bears led most of the first half, eventually building a 21-12 at the half.
But Mill Valley, led in scoring by Taylor Reinoehl and Kendall Short (10 points each), were able to overcome the first half deficit.
Turner was outscored 21-8 in the third quarter, trailing 33-29 after three. A high scoring fourth quarter from both teams – Turner outscored Mill Valley 17-16 - narrowed the final margin to 49-46.
