High school girls basketball recaps
A handful of girls basketball games were played involving Wyandotte County teams Monday.
• Piper 58, Eudora 36
The Lady Pirates easily advanced into the second round of the Paola Invitational.
They were led by Patrice Lasley's 19 points and Danyelle Cole's 16 points. After trailing 14-10 after the first quarter, Piper opened up a significant advantage in the second quarter.
The Lady Pirates outscored Eudora 23-6, taking a 33-20 lead into halftime. Piper would pad its lead in the second half.
• Bishop Miege 73, Sumner Academy 40
The Sumner Academy Lady Sabres fell to 0-2 after being defeated by Bishop Miege
Kathleen Brisbane and Sameia Kendall led the Lady Sabres, scoring 14 and 13 points respectively.
Sumner trailed 32-19 at the half. Miege would expand its lead to 53-32 after three quarters of play. Miege is one of the top 10 teams in the state, according to a handful of polls.
• Blue Valley Northwest 64, Bishop Ward 58
The Bishop Ward Lady Cyclones dropped their second close game in the past few days.
Led by Kylie Burns' 29 points, Ward fought to the end with Blue Valley Northwest.
The Lady Cyclones were down just one point after the first quarter (17-16) and were within six at 31-25 by the time halftime arrived.
Ward made halftime adjustments, outscoring Northwest by six to tie the game at 43. But a 21-15 advantage for Northwest provided them enough to prevail over Ward.
Kayla Sodders added 10 points for the Lady Cyclones.
• Olathe North 63, Wyandotte 26
Royce Shields' 20 points were not enough for the Lady Bulldogs, falling to Olathe North.
Olathe North built a 32-12 lead at halftime and were never threatened in the game.
