Holman Academy receives grant
US Bank recently presented a $1,000 sponsorship grant to the North East Business Association, which will use it to fund the Maurice R. Holman Academy of Excellence Charter School.
The dollars will go towards supporting the charter school's banking program.
Two bank employees will also train volunteers to work with fifth graders at the school to operate the bank.
"Parents and other community volunteers will help supervise student bank employees," a press release about the news states. "The students will be paid in Holman dollars for their employment and can either deposit their earnings in the Holman Bank or purchase items from the school store as part of the entrepreneurial and personal finances training and experience at Holman Academy."
The banking program aligns with the personal finance benchmarks outlined in the State of Kansas' math standards.
