Sumner overcomes early deficit to defeat Lawrence
Posted by Nick Sloan on December 11, 2009 - 2:15am
Down most of the first half and facing a nine-point halftime hole, the Sumner Academy Sabres fought back in the second half to defeat Lawrence 53-50.
The Sabres were led by Davonte Chaney's 18 point sand five three-point shots in the victory. Reese Holliday added 10 points for the Sabres effort.
Sumner started off slow in the game, scoring just 19 points in the first half. The Sabres trailed 28-19 at the half.
But in the third quarter, Sumner showed why many across the state consider them a favorite to win the 4A state crown.
The Sabres outscored Lawrence 22-11 in the third quarter, taking a two-point lead into the fourth. The Sabres would hold off Lawrence.
