I think they can co-exist if the Woodlands bring back horse and dog racing.

Studies have shown that casinos next to racetracks with slots actually do better business when live racing is occurring. I feel that we can support both, and the slots at the track have much more benefit to the state as they are required to put 7% of the slots revenue into both horse and dog racing purses and breeders awards. This will be a major economic stimulus to kansas, creating many jobs in the breeding and training industry.

So do you think the Woodlands will reopen?

The Woodlands, although a very fun experience, was never really innovative when it was open. It just seemed to keep sliding slowly downward. While they were open, we were always reading why they had it so tough, and how they were operating in unfair conditions. They were always subtracting. I would question if the owners have the mindset for a slot casino. I am afraid that if they were given the green light, they would just blow of the dust, back up a truck full of slots, and hang a new sign.

The tracks have said they would reopen under the currently proposed legislation, and unlike the destination casinos in order to have slots they have to have live racing. If they don't race, they can't have the slots.
