Weekend basketball: Washington upsets Shawnee Mission Northwest
The biggest upset of the high school basketball season in Wyandotte occurred Saturday night at Washington.
Shawnee Mission Northwest – coming into the game ranked in some Kansas Class 6A polls – was upended at Washington High School by the Wildcats 62-59 in overtime.
The Wildcats were led by Trevaughn White's 22 points and Kalen Allen's 17 points. Allen, the sharpshooter for the Wildcats, drilled three three-point shots.
The game was close throughout.
After one, Northwest led 16-14 and at halftime, it was just a three-point lead at 27-24.
But Washington responded with its best quarter of the evening, scoring 16 points and tying the game at 40 after three. The teams each scored 14 in the final quarter, with Washington edging out Northwest in overtime.
Washington is off to a 2-0 start.
