Spring floral design classes to be held at KCKCC
By ALAN HOSKINS, Kansan Contributor
A series of three monthly Floral Design classes will be offered this spring at the Technical Education Center of Kansas City Kansas Community College.
Offered through KCKCC Continuing Education and Community Services, each of the courses will be instructed by Charlotte Batrez and held on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. in the Technical Education Center adjacent to F.L. Schlagle High School at 2220 N. 59th Street.
For the first session of each of the three classes, participants are requested to bring floral wire cutters, scissors, a glue gun with extra glue sticks and 15-20 silk flowers of any type. Additional supply lists will be distributed the first day of classes. The classes:
Style Interpretation in Floral Design: Luck of the Irish. Offered March 3-31 (no class on March 17), the class will teach design, harmony and unity and how they are used in designing and producing various centerpieces.
Color Coordination: Home and Office Décor. Held April 7-28, participants will learn color coordination and not only how color affects mood but how designs can be created to brighten and soften any room in a home, office, church or nursing facility. Projects will include the making of wreaths, centerpieces and vase or pot arrangement.
History in the Making: Outside Décor. The last in the series offered May 5-26, participants will learn the rich, world-wide history of floral design and period styles. In addition, each week they will incorporate the different components of style learned for the period into outdoor décor wreaths, topiaries and pomanders.
The cost for each of the classes is $40 ($35 for Club members). Persons may register on line at www.kckcc.edu and click on Continuing Education and Spring 2010 Schedule where the classes are listed under Community Education/ Personal Growth or by phone at 913-288-7660 with credit card payment.
