Latino Tax Services and Insurance, a Kansas City, Kan. business, was sued today by Kansas Attorney General Stephen Six for alleged violations of the Kansas Consumer Protection Act.
The company, located at 3726 Everett Ave., will be temporarily shut down a portion of the business that produces illegal drivers licenses.
“This is another example of how our Consumer Protection Division collaborates with law enforcement authorities to protect Kansas consumers from deceptive business practices,” Six said in a Friday afternoon release. “The persistence and hard work of the division sends the message that if you are a business scamming Kansas consumers, beware.”
Six alleges that during a joint investigation between the Roeland Park Police Department and the Kansas Department of Revenue, investigators uncovered that LTS Insurance, in coordination with the International Automobile Association, sold “international driver’s licenses” to consumers to be used as a valid Kansas driver’s license.
Six said the lawsuit was filed earlier this week in Wyandotte County District Court. In the suit, Six alleges the company targeted Hispanic consumers, misled them as to the validity of the international license and then sold the license at a grossly excessive price compared to the price a valid driver’s license obtained from the Kansas Division of Motor Vehicles.
